Press-Reviews-Testimonials and Interviews
Hi
Friends, We have just returned from our debut short tour of Holland.
We had a
great time and played to some great audiences.
in
Hoogkarspel a man called Theo who runs the Pink Floyd fan club in
Holland attended.
I'm sure
Theo won't mind if I publish his email to me and the review that
followed for the Dutch Floyd fans.
Hello Mark and
all members from The New Machine,
Yesterday I went to Hoogkarspel for a 2,5
Hours ride by train to see you playing.
I wanna thank you all for the great performance you did.
Without projections, without lasers and without extra lightning, I had
a good
time. You did it your way, a little "rocky" , I liked it. I'm sorry
that I had to go and
missed the Encore, but I had to get my last train. Thank you for
meeting you backstage
and thank you for the CD. Thank you for all and I hope to see you again
some time.
I made some pictures and I'll write about last night on my site, the
next days, and
don't worry: I'm always honest about tributebands, and when I say "I
liked it" then I
mean "I liked It". Succes with your Interstellar Tour and hope to hear
from you.
Shine on,
Theo

New Machine (UK)
Zaal Bantam Hoogkarspel dd 6 februari 2009
The Great Gig in the Lowlands.......
Nederlandse debuut is van de Engelse tributeband The New Machine. Eerst
me hotel opgezocht in Bovenkarspel, me floydiaans omgekleed en toen de
trein terug richting Hoogkarspel.
Even na negen uur

 |
altijd floydiaans.
herkenbaar.
Zo ook de toetsen
in het algemeen, maar vooral bij Us & Them en Any Colour You Like,
Zangeres Sam Scott (zie
foto hier naast) liet iedereen met open mond staan luisteren tijdens
haar geweldige vertolking van The Great Gig In The Sky.
achteraan, zo'n beetje On The Dark Side Of The Stage en dus
nieuwe CD. Met iedereen wel even een praatje gemaakt en voelde me
meteen thuis.
Floyd betreft.
We gingen ons opmaken
Men begon met Shine On
liet komen.
in de volgende song A Great Day For Freedom.
zoals bij David in On An Island.
|
On The
Turning Away, What Do You Want From Me en Take It Back, die volgden
The Wall part 1 en part 2.
Leuk
bedacht om
"If
you don't eat yer meat, you can't have any pudding. How can you have
any pudding if you don't eat yer meat?"
 |
 |
richting Bovenkarspel,
waar ik de nacht zou doorbrengen. Helaas miste ik hierdoor Wish You
Were Here, Comfortably Numb, maar vooral Marooned dat ik graag had
willen horen.

New
Machine's Tribute to Pink Floyd member
Lowedown 6/11/08 read it
Palace
Theatre Paignton June 6 2008
Hi
Paul,
Saw
the show in Paignton last night and have to admit I was shocked. I
had anticipated that you would be you would be good, but had never
expected such a professional performance. The music was spot on –
faithful but not slavish to the original and the lightshow in particular
surpassed many a fulltime touring band and really made the show.
Fantastic. Way beyond what you’d expect.
The highlight for me, surprisingly, was Great Gig... I must admit when
you played the opening chords I feared a train wreck. Very difficult
song to get right, I heard Mica Paris murder this song with David
Gilmour at the Albert Hall a couple of years ago but you and the girls
absolutely nailed it. Powerful, subtle and above all restrained,
resisting the easy temptation to let it fall into a lot of “soulful”
wailing.
My
only disappointment was that you played longer than we expected and as
we had arranged to pick my daughter up at 11.30, we had to leave after
Wish You Were Here so we missed the end. Oh, and something from
Animals wouldn’t hurt would it? All
in all a really great show and thanks for a thoroughly enjoyable night
out. I’ll come again.
Nice
hat by the way!
Gareth

I wanted to say thanks for the
tickets for last Friday nights show and also to say how much we enjoyed
it. Thought the light show and sound
was fantastic and it was great to hear Pink Floyd songs---old and
new----played so authentically and well."Coming Back To Life"
with the guitar intro is one of my all time PF favourites.
Loved the tone of your guitars. Was that a white Mexican Squire I
spotted???
Also had the pleasure of meeting Jamie Darlings Mum and Dad
who were obviously proud ,and rightly so, to see their son performing on
stage.Quite a talented drummer and singer methinks.
Think the venue itself needs to keep a bit more
control over the drinkers who insist on talking loudly throughout and
that must be a little off putting for you with them wandering in and out
all the time but thats just the grumpy old man in me talking now.
Thanks once again for the tickets and please
tell the other band members that the show was much appreciated.I mostly
only go to Wishbone Ash gigs these days anorac that I am but your show
was a refreshing change.
Kind Regards---------Mike Perring That's Entertainment

Carlton Theatre
, Teignmouth
The
New Machine played the Carlton Theatre on Saturday March 8 2008 and
delivered a great performance. Hailed as probably the best ‘Floyd’
tribute band in the UK, they certainly livened up Teignmouth. The
audience were involved in every aspect of the performance with loud
cheering for the Syd Barrett homage. The New Machine were joined at the
end by MC Coleman for their exclusive rap version of Another Brick In
the Wall, this different spin on a classic had everyone on their feet.
thanks to the New Machine the next generation are learning to fly!

'The
New Machine' Perform Pink Floyd at the
Babbacombe Theatre
(Submitted
by Andrew Mayne 15th October 2007)
On
Saturday night I went along to The
Babbacombe Theatre to watch ‘The New
Machine’ playing Pink Floyd…..and
what a night. I was sat four
rows back from the front and it took
until mid-day on Sunday for my ears to
stop buzzing/bleeding!!
Anyone
who says that ‘Tribute Bands are
second best’ really ought to watch
these guys perform…..they are truly
excellent. the vocals, lighting
and sound was just superb. It was a
quality performance from a band that
obviously really enjoys what they do.
These
guys can really perform. I would
really recommend getting tickets for any
future gig. Like me, you do not
have to be a Floyd Fan to appreciate
good music and a great performance.
After
Saturday night I will be returning my
Wurzels CD to the bottom drawer and
dusting off my copy of Dark side of the
Moon.
Well done, and thanks for a great night
out.

St
Austell Band Club
By:
Frank Blades for Alternative View
The
Machine hit the stage with Shine
On You Crazy Diamond. Right from the start, the
crowd was behind them - and that isn't bad considering this
wasn't a rocker crowd at all. We had the local youths out in
their clubwear drinking to impress the opposite sex;
guzzling pints of lager and starting fights - and that was
just the girls! And we had grizzled old men with pipes and
dark mild tapping their feet to the Floydian beat. And I
ended up chatting to a chap recovering from serious brain
damage (I kid you not!).
Next
up was a favourite of the crowd - Learning
to Fly. Being the newest song the band played, I can
only guess this was the Floyd album that the crowd had heard
of! Whatever - the guys did it proud, excellent guitar work
from Mark. This was followed - according to the play list -
by On
The Turning Away which isn't something I am familiar
with and don't remember. Best move on then... The guys then
took us on a trip through Dark
Side Of the Moon with five tracks all totally
suitable to the time and the place. Backing tapes of alarms
rang in Time
which was followed by an excellent version of Us
& Them which saw Dani on backing vocalist really
coming into her own. Really got the hairs on the back of my
neck leaping around!
What
next? Well, the title track of the vacation - Brain
Damage followed by Eclipse.
I really can't over-state exactly how relevant these tracks
were. Totally bizarre situation and the Floyd seemed to have
predicted it - back in 1973! We completed the Moon
tracks with a rocking version of Money.
The crowd was really raucous and their dancing fast
approaching a riot - so what do you play? Well, maybe the
anarchic Another
Brick in the Wall part 3 wasn't the best choice!
Somehow the venue survived as the dancers decided singing
the chorus (which they all knew - at least by the third
calling) was better than burning effigies of the barman!
More
of the newer stuff with Coming
Back To Life before the guys interrupted their
tribute set with an original song. Sacrilege! What is a
damned good tribute band thinking by playing something new
and original? For those of you who consider tribute bands to
be a shadow of the 'real' bands - check out Interstellar
Rockstar - I think its still downloadable from The
Machine website. A cracking good song which was greeted by
polite applause. Originality is all good and well, but the
crowd wanted songs they already knew. What chance do you
have to make as an originals band? Well, I liked it!
Succumbing
to massed media demand, the set was completed with one of
the best known Floyd tracks - a superb version of Wish
You Were Here - which I had been hammering to death
on the car's cassette player all week. A great end to a
superb set. And of course, they were never going to get away
with that - the Band Club went crazy (not a long journey for
some of them!) until the band returned to the stage for an
epic finale of Comfortably
Numb followed by Run
Like Hell. I suspect the foundations are still
rocking to this day!

The
Spotlight Interview
by Severine, We7 PR Guru
www.we7.com
The New Machine are an extraordinary band: their tribute to one of the
most amazing bands of the Rock history, Pink Floyd, is simply
uplifting. They present today their single "Another Brick in the
Wall" in collaboration with MC Coleman, which is a Rap version of
the hit launched by Pink Floyd in 1980. A new message for the young
generation mixing rock riffs and hip hop beats to reach an even bigger
audience. A clash of the 2 music genres, or a successful
collaboration? Let's see!
The
New Machine is a tribute to Pink Floyd. Why?
MC C: It's quite simple really. Pink Floyd are one of the greatest
bands of all time and most of the world know of them and love their
music. Mark's guitar style captures the essence of the Floyd feel and
everyone in the band loves playing the music. The New Machine write
their own music too and check the title track of the album
"Interstellar Rockstar".
Where
did the idea come from to do a Hip Hop version of the very famous
track "The Wall"?
MC C: Well the Rap Lyrics were a concept coming from a former band
member (Jamie Sinclair). This gave me a good incite of the message
which was that kids do need education. So I constructed the lyrics
around the instrumental and went back to the studio and spit them over
a rough instrumental, Mark was well pleased and produced the track and
here it is.
Did
you fear the opposition of the Rock aficionados or even your own fans
when you mixed Hip Hop and Rock?
MC C: Nada, not at all man, reason being, if I'm happy with what I
write that's all that matters. Plus people have been mixing hip hop
with rock for years.
What
is your favourite CD?
MC C: Best of Reggae
Jai: Helloween - 'The Legacy'
Mark: Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Bryn Morgan Evans
And
the one you are ashamed of having in your CD collection? ;-)
MC C: Bluedabadedabadi. My bad lol.
Jai: MMMMmmmm that's a hard one, I love all my music including Vivaldi!!!
Oh how about on vinyl ' NOW Thats What I Call Music Vol. 12'!!!! Now
there's some crap on that!!!!!
What
did you want to be as a kid?
MC C:To be honest, I wanted to be a power ranger, but man , nufmanz
really. I wanted to be a footballer, then I broke my leg but things
happen for a reason and found music.
When
did you start playing music?
MC C: Surprisingly, I never proper got into music until I was 15/ 16.
I was always brought up with such music as Guns & Roses, Oasis,
Supertramp, but I always loved Reggae thanks to Mum & Dad.
You
did quite a lot of gigs and festivals recently. How much do you like
doing these types of performances?
Mark: We love doing the big stages, The band are all great players and
always rise to occasion, then when MC Coleman comes on, we kill'em
Do
you have any habits or lucky charm acts before going on stage?
MC C: I tend to have a word with myself and say if this what you
really wanna do, ya better get up their and kill it as if it's the
last gig ever. That seems to work
What
are you projects for the upcoming month?
The New Machine: writing for second album and gigging.
MC C: I'm finishing up writing my album and working with as many
people as I can. Then I plan to take over the world. Bless, MC
Coleman.
